Here is the notice:
Please thank Mayor Wheeler, Commissioner Fish and Commissioner Fritz for delaying the vote to allow time to consider the full consequences of the ordinance and develop an alternative |
Dear Multifamily NW Members and Interested Parties, Portland City Council has delayed deliberations on the rental screening ordinance until May 23, due largely to efforts by Multifamily NW. This is a good time to thank Mayor Wheeler, Commissioner Fish and Commissioner Fritz for delaying the vote to allow time to consider the full consequences of the ordinance and develop an alternative. We urge you to call or email Wheeler and Fish and thank them for delaying the vote. Your email or phone call can be brief. The basic points are: 1) Thank you for delaying the vote. 2) This ordinance requires more attention to ensure it achieves its goals without unintended consequences such as increasing rents or lowering housing supply. We encourage you to develop your own language when you call or email. However, if you want to use a prepared statement, you may copy the following. If you are making phone calls, please prioritize Wheeler and Fish in your calls; Fritz is an optional third phone call. If you are emailing, please email all three. Contact info is below. Dear Mayor Wheeler, Commissioner Fish and Commissioner Fritz, Thank you for delaying the vote on ordinance 30.01.086 and 30.01.087, which will greatly alter the way rental housing providers in Portland screen applicants.
