Here is the latest alert from Deborah Imse, President of Metrofamily NW regarding government activity on rent control:
Dear Multifamily NW Members & Interested Parties,
Today the Oregon Legislature opens for the 2019 Session, and they are wasting no time with the likely 1st committee hearing of Rent Control bill SB 608 on Monday, February 4th beginning at 3:00pm.
This bill has the potential to make grave changes to Oregon Landlord/Tenant law, more than any previous attempt in the last 20 years. In addition to limiting rent increases to an annual 7% +CPI it would also eliminate most End of Tenancy “no-cause” Notices and mandate state-wide relocation payments.
We will be updating members as soon as more information is available. Please consider giving formal testimony, whether in person or in writing how this bill would negatively affect your business. Our legal/PR team will distribute talking points and a synopsis of SB 608. Please let us know if you’re able to participate in this fight.
